2026 Charter Election

The Sweet Home Charter is the foundational legal document that outlines the structure, powers, duties, and organization of the municipal government. This document guides the functioning of the City of Sweet Home. It was last majorly revised in 2015 and had one revision in May 2025 to elect the Mayor directly.

Through the efforts of a citizen Charter Review Committee and City Council, major revisions are proposed to the Sweet Home Charter in 2026. A summary of changes are presented below. Click each section to expand it and read what is proposed to change. You'll also find copies of the current Charter, proposed revisions showing markups (changes) on the Charter, and a final draft if the changes are approved as attachments below.

Changes to Sweet Home's Charter require voter approval through a regularly scheduled election. The election date for these changes was May 19, 2026 and the electors of Sweet Home voted to amend the Charter as proposed. As of June 3, 2026, the City is waiting for the certified election results from Linn County, at which point the Charter changes will take effect.
