The budget for the City of Sweet Home is developed annually under the provisions of Oregon Local Budget Law defined by ORS 294.305 to 294.565. A budget is a financial plan containing estimates of revenues and expenditures for a given period or purpose. The City's budget is based on a fiscal year (FY) beginning July 1st of the first year and ending June 30th of the next. As required by Oregon law, the City must appoint a Budget Officer who prepares a budget and presents it to the Budget Committee. In the City of Sweet Home, the City Manager typically acts as the Budget Officer.

The Budget Committee received the budget and annual Budget Message during public meetings on April 30 and May 1, 2025. During these meetings, the Committee reviewed and approved the property tax rate and proposed City budget for FY 2025-2026. City Council adopted the budget on June 10, 2025.
Meetings of the Budget Committee are held at Sweet Home's City Hall at 3225 Main Street and are open to the public. All meetings are also live-streamed online. Public comment may be provided during the meeting by signing up with staff in advance, or by submitting written testimony to City Hall prior to the meeting. Two public meetings of the Budget Committee of the City of Sweet Home to discuss the budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 will be held at 3225 Main Street, Sweet Home, OR 97386. The meetings will take place on April 29 and 30, 2026 at 5:30 PM. If needed, an additional public meeting will be held on May 4, 2026 at 5:30 PM. The purpose of the meeting on April 29th will be to receive the budget message. During the meeting on April 30th, a public hearing to consider the spending of Shared State Revenues will be held. There will be opportunity to receive comment from the public on the budget at each meeting. These are public meetings where deliberation of this Budget Committee will take place. A copy of the budget document may be inspected or obtained after April 16, 2026 between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:30 PM. Any person may appear at these meeting and discuss the proposed programs with the Budget Committee.
