On May 8, 2019, at approximately 2:15 p.m., Sweet Home Police Officers responded to Sweet Home High School in response to a report of a threatening message found written on a wall in a boy’s bathroom. When officers arrived, students were leaving the campus due to a scheduled early release.

The School Resource Officer, school administration and other SHPD personnel investigated the message and determined there was no credible or substantiated threat. School administration advised the public of the situation via social media.

The following day (05/09/19) students remained engaged in normal educational activities; however, out of an abundance of caution for the safety of the students an increase of law enforcement presence was at the school. Officers and the School Administration continued the investigation into the written threat.

On May 9, 2019, at about 2:45 p.m. Austin Brian Lee, a 15-year-old male student from Sweet Home was arrested by SHPD personnel and charged with Disorderly Conduct I and lodged at the Linn-Benton Juvenile Detention facility. His arrest in connection with the threatening message that was written on the wall.
Based on the investigation, officers and school administration determined that no existing plans to harm students or staff had taken place.

The safety of students is of vital importance to the Sweet Home Police Department and Sweet Home School District administration. Any and all threats received by the Sweet Home Police Department are taken seriously, and all threats are investigated to their fullest extent.
