Every day, the plant treats wastewater from homes and businesses using a multi-step process that removes solids, reduces pollutants, and safely disinfects the water before it is returned to the river.

Here’s how it works:

• Screening: Large debris is removed early in the process.

• Biological Treatment: Beneficial microorganisms break down waste in aeration basins.

• Clarification: Solids settle out, leaving cleaner water.

• Filtration (seasonal): Additional treatment helps meet stricter summer water quality standards.

• Disinfection: The water is safely disinfected before being released back into the South Santiam River.
